The film has little dialogue and relies on a remarkable series of contrasts for effect: a sultry night of deep, often painful depictions of passion visualized in a stark and grainy manner against the backdrop of a spiritless, bland ...。陈季常（廖伟雄饰）自觉才貌双全，生活中招蜂引蝶风流成性，他的好友苏东坡（林家栋饰）恋上了名为卢小蝶（傅明宪饰）的美丽女子，为了成全朋友的恋情，陈季常毛遂自荐为苏东坡出谋划策。陈季常发现小蝶的身边经常伴着名为柳月娥（关咏荷饰）的侍女，他决定采用迂回战术先和月娥搞好关系。 性格刚烈的月娥瞧不起陈季常的纨绔不化，但随着时间的推移，陈季常的坚持不懈渐渐打动了月娥，两人之间的关系越走越近，最终踏入了婚姻的殿堂。婚后的陈季常惊觉月娥的“专横跋扈不通情理”，重重的压迫再加上苏东坡的教唆，陈季常移情她人恋上了青楼名妓。。
