电影讲述的是在农村生活的青年诗人不听父亲的劝说毅然决定去牛市卖掉家里的牛。可是牛市的价格大跌，他决定带着牛前往各地想卖个好价钱。旅行途中他接到朋友妻子的电话，得知朋友去世的消息，赶往葬礼现场。想起曾经三人共度的年轻快乐时光，他答应要照顾朋友的妻子。于是两个人相伴与牛开始全国旅行……。讲述了民国时期在狂野西部人性厮杀的环境中，几路不明身份的人为抢夺税金马车占据了一个客栈，客栈女主人和伙计为了生存奋力反抗保护自己客栈的故事。。He works at the fairground as “Stump the Guesser”, who can guess anything for a fee.
